We started because software skipped small businesses.

CodeVert began with a bill. A friend who runs a two-chair clinic had paid ₹45,000 for a website, and eighteen months later he still could not change his own consultation timings.¹ Every edit meant an email, a wait, and another invoice. The site took nine seconds to load on his patients' phones. We rebuilt it in a week for a fraction of that, and gave him the password. He has not called a developer since. That is the whole idea, and we have not needed a better one.

What we found after that was not a design problem. It was a translation problem. Owners know exactly what is going wrong — the phone rings during surgery hours, the same fifty invoices get typed by hand every month, half the enquiries are lost in a WhatsApp group. Nobody had ever asked them that question first. So we ask it first. Then we build the smallest piece of technology that removes the problem, and nothing else. Sometimes that is a website. Often it is four pages and one form.

We are new. New studios have two ways to get trusted: charge a lot and act certain, or do the work in public and let it speak. We chose the second. The Free Website Programme is not charity and we do not pretend it is.² NGOs, small shops and community groups get a real website at no cost. We get proof, a portfolio, and people who tell us honestly where we got it wrong. Both sides know the terms. That has been fairer than any sales pitch.
